Springtime in the Mountains

I spent a recent weekend exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina as spring reaches the higher altitudes of the mountains. Driving up late my first night and hoping to catch a sunset, I was treated to a much different spectacle on top of the Blue Ridge Parkway, thick fog!

Normally, you would be able to see for miles from the top of the parkway, with countless ridges on the horizon. But that night, I could only see about 50 feet in front of me as I drove towards my campsite. It was a stressful drive to say the least!

Just a few hours later (the next morning) I was back out on the parkway, once again driving through a thick fog. My goal was to get out early enough before sunrise that I had ample time to test out a few overlooks and come up with a composition I really liked. I was hoping to get above the fog and capture an awesome sunrise above the clouds. Along the way, I filmed a few timelapses before the sun peeked over the horizon, check them out below!

Although my goal was to capture the sunrise above the clouds, the conditions didn't cooperate with exactly what I was envisioning, regardless, I was able to find some new and interesting compositions after the sun rose that I otherwise would've missed! My favorite of which (potentially of all time!) is below!

Sunset over rolling hills with colorful trees. A blooming tree in the foreground. Soft pastel sky creates a serene, warm mood.

Not long after sunrise, the clouds once again covered the mountains, shrouding the parkway in a thick fog. I decided to drive further up the parkway to shoot some more foggy Blue Ridge photos.

My final stop was a waterfall that I had driven right by dozens of times on my way to the mountains but never stopped to go see. I wanted to check out what I had been passing up all these years... and boy had I been missing out! The trail to the waterfall was a bit tumultuous, with multiple stream crossings, but the final view was well worth the wet shoes and socks. Here's what I got!

Waterfall cascades into a calm pool in a forest setting, with a moss-covered fallen log in the foreground. Lush green trees surround.

That's all for now! If you've made it this far, thanks for taking the time to support my work! If you enjoyed this update, or any of the photos I shared, you can subscribe below to stay updated on any new updates I publish from my travels.
